Identifying a Vehicle Using the Universal Search Tree (UST)

Note: This is an additional module that requires special licensing. Please contact Audatex for more information.

Before using the Universal Search Tree to identify a vehicle, it is a good idea to enter any vehicle identification information you have about the case vehicle, for example, VIN, KBA and first registration date. You might have done this when you created a new case but if you didn't, you can enter details in the Vehicle Data page or the Vehicle identification UST page.

It is important to note however, that this information is not sufficient if you wish to calculate vehicle repair costs, capture vehicle damage or perform a vehicle valuation. To do any of these tasks, you must use the Universal Search Tree to identify a vehicle. You do this in three steps.

Step 1 - Search for a vehicle

In this first step, you must use one of the configured methods to search for a vehicle. Which method you can use depends on the configuration of the system.

What should you do if you cannot find the vehicle using one of configured methods?

Step 2 - Identify the correct vehicle

Sometimes, the completed search will return only a few vehicles that match the search criteria you entered and so you might be able to select the correct vehicle right away. More often, the system returns a longer list of matching vehicles and you will need to shorten this list. This is done in step 2 by filtering the search by:

  • Vehicle characteristics (doors, fuel-type, engine size, etc)
  • Tariff date

At this stage, you can accept the identified vehicle and perform both a vehicle damage calculation and a vehicle valuation. However, if you wish to further configure the vehicle by selecting vehicle equipment you must continue to step 3. Doing so will render both a vehicle damage calculation and vehicle valuation more accurate and ensure that you can capture damage for the full range of sub-model or model options for the vehicle.

Step 3 - Configuring the identified vehicle

In this final step, you further refine the vehicle you selected in step 2 by configuring:

  • Serial equipment
  • Optional equipment
  • Manual equipment
  • Technical equipment

Configuring vehicle equipment ensures that the vehicle valuation takes into account non-standard vehicle features.
