Capturing Hail Damage Using the Hail Expert Formula

When capturing hail damage, you have two options, (1) enter details of the hail damage and allow the system to calculate the number of work units for you or (2) manually define work units or a fixed price for the work.

Following option 1, the Hail Expert hail formula gives you the opportunity to compare the associated costs of various dent repair options and then make a repair method selection based on the results. Comparison is based a fixed number of dents that are greater than 20mm. See Entering the Number of Dents for Comparison.

When capturing hail damage, you can use the calculator pad to enter values. Click calculator to open the calculator pad. You can read more about the calculator and keyboard pad by clicking here.

  1. Navigate to the desired vehicle zone.
  2. Click a part to select it.
  3. Click repair method D. The Hail Formula dialog box displays.

Option 1

  1. In the Formula section and with the Formula option button selected, define the alignment of the hail damaged part by clicking the Horizontal or Vertical button.
  2. Enter the number of dents in the Number of Dents field.
  3. Define the average size of the dents by clicking one of the size buttons. For example, click the 10 button for an average size of 10mm.

The system calculates the number of work units required based on system stored values and displays them in the WUs field.

  4. Add further work units by selecting one or more of the following tickboxes:
    • Part Preparation (2.5 WU) - use this for additional costs to cover work such as polishing.
    • 25% WU Markup for Aluminium Parts - use this for additional costs to cover light-metal parts, such as aluminium.
    • Preparation Time for Each Vehicle (6 WU) - use this for additional costs to cover preparation work such as masking or cleaning. You can only add this once per calculation.

If you selected the Part Preparation (2.5 WU) and Preparation Time for Each Vehicle (6 WU) tickboxes in the Hail Configuration tab these extra work units will be added by default and the tickboxes will already be selected. Clear either tickbox to override the default and remove the extra work units. See Configuring Hail.

  5. Click Compare to compare the costs of repair using the Hail Expert formula against the costs of pre-pressing and painting the dents.

This button will be greyed-out if the Dents field and % of dents > 20 fields are empty. Remember that this information is required to compare repair costs options. See Entering the Number of Dents for Comparison.
In the bottom-half of the dialog box, the system displays the number of work units and cost using the Hail Expert formula, Pre-pressing and Painting (Manufacturer or AZT) and Replacing and Painting (Manufacturer or AZT). Painting costs will vary according to the chosen paint method, manufacturer or AZT.

  6. Click:

    - Press to accept the work units and costs using the Hail Expert formula. This will apply repair method D.

    - Pre-Press to accept the number of work units and costs associated with pre-pressing the dents and painting. This will apply repair method D and a paint method. The paint method applied will depend on the extent of the damage and surface area to be painted.

This button is only available if you used the Compare button to compare repair costs.

    - Replace to accept the number of work units and costs associated with replacing the part and painting. This will apply repair method D and a paint method. The paint method applied will depend on, for example, whether the part is pre-painted or not.

    - Delete Position to remove the part from the list of captured positions.

Option 2

If following this option, you can define either the number of the work units or a fixed price.

  1. To define work units, click the Select WU option button and enter the number of work units in the field provided.
